Education & Reminiscence

Museums in Essex offer a wide variety of schools education programmes to support learning in the classroom.

Museums offer cross-curricula sessions covering wide-ranging subjects such as the Victorians, Ancient Egypt, World War I, textiles, the environment and many more, covering Key Stage 1 to 4. Sessions can be delivered in the museum either by a member of museum staff or by the class teacher. Many museums also offer loans boxes to schools covering a wide range of subjects.

Many Essex Museums are the proud recipients of the ‘Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge’.

If you are a teacher and would like more information on schools education sessions in Essex Museums please contact the Heritage Education Service at the Essex Record Office on heritage.education@essex.gov.uk or call 01245 244679.

If you are from a museum and would like to talk about developing education resources or applying for the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge please contact Sarah Girling, Heritage Education Officer at the Essex Record Office on sarah.girling@essex.gov.uk or call 01245 244679.

Reminiscence

The Essex Reminiscence Network is a highly successful partnership project designed to bring pleasure, mental stimulation and meaning to the lives of older people.

Museums are full of objects, sounds and smells that can help trigger memories and many museums also have boxes carers can borrow free of charge to use in their own homes or centres.

If you care for an older person and want to know how the Network can help you please contact Sarah Girling, Heritage Education Officer, at the Essex Record Office on sarah.girling@essex.gov.uk or call 01245 244679.
